Historic Name HOLDENVILLE CITY HALL
Description of Significance THE HOLDENVILLE CITY HALL, BUILT IN 1910, IS A TWO-STORY BRICK FEDERAL-STYLE BUILDING WITH ELABORATE STONE ACCENTS. THIS CENTRAL BLOCK WITH WINGS TYPE BUILDING HAS THREE BAYS. THE FIRST FLOOR FEATURES A RUSTICATED STONE WATERTABLE. THE ENTRY IS CENTRALLY LOCATED BENEATH A CAST STONE PORTICO, SUPPORTED BY FOUR IONIC COLUMNS. A LARGE TRANSOM TOPS THE FRONT DOUBLE DOORS. A SINGLE LARGE WINDOW IS LOCATED TO EITHER SIDE OF THE ENTRY. THE ORIGINAL WINDOWS HAVE BEEN REPLACED WITH MODERN ALUMINUM WINDOWS. EACH WINDOW HAS A STONE LINTEL. A CAST STONE BELT LINE SERVES TO VISUALLY SEPARATE THE FLOORS. THE CENTRAL BAY OF THE SECOND FLOOR PROJECTS SLIGHTLY OUT OVER THE FIRST FLOOR PORTICO. THIS CENTRAL PROJECTION IS TOPPED BY A CLASSICAL TRIANGULAR PEDIMENT, COMPLETE WITH DENTILS. A SINGLE WINDOW IS LOCATED IN EACH OF THE OTHER BAYS. THE ROOFLINE IS GRADUATED IN HEIGHT, WITH A CENTRAL PARAPET. AN ELABORATE CORNICE IS LOCATED JUST BELOW THE MAIN ROOFLINE. DECORATIVE STONE QUOINING ACCENTS THE EDGES OF THE BUILDING. BEYOND ITS OUTSTANDING ARCHITECTURE, THE CITY HALL REPRESENTS CONTINUITY AND STABILITY TO THE POLITICAL, ECONOMIC, AND SOCIAL STRUCTURE OF THE TOWN. LISTED IN THE NATIONAL REGISTER, 9/11/1981.
